Indy 500 / Conway Crash Photos by Scott Richardson
Indiana photographer Scott Richardson has posted some of the most incredible photos I've yet seen of Mike Conway's crash at the 2010 Indianapolis 500. My son and I were in the stands just a section or two away from the impact point, and I had been standing against the railing that can be seen in the photos just shortly before the crash.
Conway suffered a broken leg and a cracked vertebrae in his back and a few fans suffered relatively minor injuries from flying debris. However it's amazing and incredibly fortunate that the injuries to both the driver and fans were not more severe. I wish them all a very speedy recovery!

As some of you may already know, one of my hobbies is recording sounds at the various motorsports events I attend. Daniel Mueller from SonicCube in Switzerland downloaded some of the clips I've posted at IndianaRacing.net and used them to create some really cool music that could be used in presentations, videos, etc.

Alex Zanardi is still amazing...
Alex Zanardi is a former Champ Car and Formula 1 driver who lost both legs above the knee in a terrible racing accident in 2001. Since then he has gone on to race in hand-control equipped cars in the World Touring Car Championship, finished 4th in the NY marathon using a handcycle, and plans to compete in the 2012 Paralympics as a member of the Italian handcycling team. Just recently, he turned laps of up to 160mph on a specially-prepared BMW motorcycle!
Alex and I were born on exactly the same day and I was able to witness in person one of his most spectacular on-track passes ever ("The Pass" in the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca in 1996) so I have taken a special interest in his career. He never ceases to amaze me.Cool Verizon Droid Ad... too bad it's in Portugese!

When you watch NHRA drag racing on TV, you're not getting even a fraction of the total experience. The Pro Nitro cars (Funny Car and Top Fuel) are absolutely incredible... the sound and energy they generate shake the earth and rock you to your core. It's like experiencing a violent thunderstorm during a massive earthquake... while being tear-gassed! (from the spent nitromethane fumes) In other words, it's awesome!
This recording is of two Top Fuel cars (8,000 hp each) during Sunday's round 4 qualifying session at the 2009 NHRA US Nationals. The cars will travel from right to left. Be sure to play this recording on a system with a good subwoofer... play it quietly first, and then once you know what to expect, crank it up!
